So we’re finally here!

Wow!

Bernice and I are finally here in Manchester. It’s Thursday now and we landed late Tuesday afternoon. It seemed like we still had so much stuff after we packed and sorted stuff out to take in the car. Never the less, it was still a major achievement to slim down a 3 bedroom house worth’s of stuff into just 1 room between two people!

There’s a wonderful sense of freedom that goes with this now as well. Just think – if you got rid of 90% of your possessions, why would you want to get them back? I am TELLING you, once you’ve made such an effort to get rid of so much and then put yourself in a possession to not really be able to store anymore, then there’s a great feeling that goes with it. I’d recommend it to everyone!

Even though Bernice and I aren’t materialistic by most people’s standards, it was still difficult to get rid of so much. It’s not that we’re that attached to things, but it’s just that we spend all this effort earning money, spend all this money on stuff and then it’s impossible to sell and is totally worthless! Shocking amounts of money were lost in giving all this stuff away. I can’t stand to throw stuff away, so we had lots of people come and take it to use.

Which just goes to highlight how throwaway our society is. We don’t value anything, everything is disposable and nothing has meaning for too long. But what a waste. However, this is what makes our society go round.

I consume therefore I am.

Buy it, use it once/couple of times, throw it away, buy another.

It’s so strange walking around seeing all these people with all their shopping bags full of clothes and what they’ve brought, and you have desire at all to have that.

It almost feels alien. But what an emancipation!
